Bali, a dream destination for any traveler, is looking to welcome international visitors by October, government says.
If the infection rate remains low and there are no more major outbreaks, the tourism ministry expects to open the borders to international visitors to Bali, the Riau Islands and the cultural capital of Yogyakarta from October.
Bali's economy depends largely on tourism. The COVID-19 pandemic has hit hard the travel industry. Domestic and international tourist arrivals have plunged sharply since March. However, If the infection curve continues to improve, the tourism ministry is looking to revitalize destinations and do promotional work for some parts of the country, including Bali, between June and October, Ni Wayan Giri Adnyani, secretary of the ministry, said in the statement. She has also said she hopes the new campaign will help visitor numbers return to normal by 2021.
As summer season approaches, many countries are trying to figure out how to revive the travel industry. Greece has recently announced it expects to open its borders by July, Iceland said it will start welcoming tourists on June 15, Aruba expects to open by July.
