Casinos in Las Vegas and other Nevada cities can reopen next Thursday for the first time since the gaming industry got shut down for more than two months ago, Gov. Steve Sisolak says. The state plans to revive its gaming industry nearly a week after it starts Phase 2 of its reopening this Friday.
“We welcome the visitors from across the country to come here, to have a good time, no different than they did previously, but we’re gonna be cautious,” said Sisolak in his statement on Tuesday.
Nevada’s Gaming Control Board released health and safety guidelines for casinos May 1, which limits occupancy to 50% and requires staff follow disinfection and social distancing protocols.
Plexiglass barriers will likely be installed at card tables and slot machines, along with regulations limiting three players at a time for blackjack and four for poker.
Along with the announcement on casinos , the governor said he would allow gatherings of up to 50 people, while still asking people to wear masks in public and socially distance. Gyms, fitness studios, movie theaters, shopping malls and bars would be allowed to reopen May 29, but with restrictions.
Brothels, night clubs and strip clubs must remain closed.
As summer season approaches, many countries are trying to figure out how to revive the travel industry. Greece has recently announced it expects to open its borders by July, Iceland said it will start welcoming tourists on June 15, Aruba expects to open by July.
