Southwest Airlines Resumes Its International Flights On June 7

Updated: May 18, 2020

Southwest resumes its international flights on June 7

Southwest airline resumes flying to five destinations: Cancun, Mexico; San Jose del Cabo/Los Cabos, Mexico; Havana, Cuba; Montego Bay, Jamaica; and Nassau, Bahamas. The airline will fly from Houston Hobby, Denver and Baltimore to Cancun; from Houston Hobby and Denver to Los Cabos; from Baltimore and Orlando to Montego Bay; from Baltimore to Nassau; and from Tampa to Havana. All other Southwest international flights will remain suspended at least through October 30.

The airline continues to offer maximum flexibility if you need to modify your travel plans, by not charging change fees.

Southwest CEO Gary Kelly recently stated that he believes it’s safe to travel again, and the airline announced a new set of safety strategies to ensure both employees and customers remain safe and healthy. Snack and beverage service temporarily suspended on all flights until further notice, although customers can bring their own food and drink on board. Southwest Airline is requiring masks for employees and passengers. Customers who forgot their masks would receive one on the flight. HEPA filters will be used to circulate air within the cabin. TSA agents will begin temperature scans as part of the screening process at checkpoints. This could cause longer lines, but the airlines said the safety of the public is the top priority.

If you are planning traveling, check the latest updates with the World Health Organization (WHO), with the ECDC, and with the public health agency of the destination you plan to visit. There you’ll find the latest COVID19 case numbers, the restrictions and quarantine requirements in place, and how overwhelmed the country’s health care system is.
